1968 Corvette

The release of this generation to the public was highly anticipated and should have been the 1967 model but for financial reasons GM choice to wait a year. Because of this delay Mattel had released it's new line of Hot Wheels sometime in late fall to early winter of 1967, which included the custom corvette. The Hot Wheels line was released a few weeks before the official unveiling of the C3 generation Corvette. Because Mattel released their line prior to the unveiling of the new generation of Corvette the relationship between Mattel and General Motors almost ended before it even began. Fortunatlely for both corporations the relationship was built and grew exponentially as the publics reaction at the unveiling of the C3's radical new design was beyond General Motors expectations at the time, a direct result of Mattels Line of Hot Wheels.

This was the first year for the new design of the C3 generation and would ultimately have the longest run in production years, 15, a production run that still holds through the current years release.
