BMW M-1

The M1 was designed to participate to Group 5 - FIA motor racing classification competitions: for this reason BMW needed to produced at least 400 units approved for road use. The genesis of the car was complex, initially it was decided to entrust the construction of the car the Lamborghini, but the not good economic conditions of the Italian car manufacturer forced BMW to lean to other companies - including the Italdesign Giugiaro. The engine was built by the division "Motorsport" of Munich. In total 456 M-1s were produced, 56 of which were destined to the competitions.
