Corvette Nose Emblem Prototype

This emblem was the original design created for use on the 1953 Corvette. Designers at Chevrolet developed a plan to use a checkered flag along with an American flag, two things that seemed to best signify the new American sports car. However a law enacted ten years prior to the development of the Corvette forbid the nations flag from being used for advertising purposes. The one and only emblem like shown here can be found at the National Corvette musem. The quickly redesigned the crossed flag symbol to use the symbol for peace and purity, the fleur-de-lis, since the Corvettes brand name is a French word, "chevrolet".
