Early Keen Kutter Single-Bit Axe

This item is a tool that has been handed down for generations. E.C.Simmons Founded the Keen Kutter Trademark in 1870. The name and mark (1896-present) is patented and is under private ownership. This axe has the early shield mark on the head. Later marks are in the shape of an axe head cutting through a piece of wood. (A.K.A Bar and Wedge or Splitting Wedge) This was made starting in 1879 and was in production until the 1960s, however, I have noted the 16 year time-frame due to the mark. This is one of the most famous items by the company, simply because the quality is exquisite. These axes, despite being over 100 years old, still cut better than some of the major brands today. Their motto: "The recollection of quality remains long after the price is forgotten" proved true for this and other cutting tools.
