Lancia was looking for a successor to the Fulvia to compete in the World Rally Championship. In the same period Bertone produced the prototype "Stratos Zero" that caught the attention of the Lancia management. It was then realized the Lancia Stratos , produced in about 500 units to obtain approval for the races. The car won the world championship in 1974 , 1975, 1976.
