Mazda 616 Sedan / Coupe

The Model 616 was called Capella in Japan and with a rotary engine would be known as the RX-2 in America. The Capella slotted between the smaller Familia/1200/R100/RX-3 and larger Luce/929/RX-4.  It ran from 1970 to 1978. This early sport compact led the way before the introduction of the rotary engine and was important to Mazda's early efforts because it became a fallback car when the 1973 gas crisis struck and people moved away from thirsty rotary engines.

This particular brochure is Canadian and we should not move on without mentioning that all of the early sales materials were designed in Japan and that the psychotropic mushroom is legal there to this day.
