Most early Japanese imports did not go beyond the West Coast so I don't know when Mazdas were imported in earnest. Datsun had begun in 1958 and Toyota had tried in 1959 but had largely retreated. By 1965/1966 the Japanese had gained some footing on the East coast of the US.
