Hot Wheels 2011 - HWC / RLC Exclusive - Real Riders Series 10 # 6/6 - Show Off - Spectraflame Gold - Metal/Metal & Real Riders - Limited to 5,000 - Toy # V0484   Whoever said it’s not polite to boast never met the Show Off. There’s a lot of interesting history behind this vehicle. The Bye-Focal, based on a Dodge Challenger and designed by the legendary Larry Wood, was initially released with an opening hood and Spectraflame finish in 1971. During the cost-cutting times of 1973, Mattel re-released the casting—but minus the hood and with a less costly enamel finish. And they re-named it the Show Off. So, 1973 kicked-off the first enamel year, ending the Spectraflame years that had ruled the line since its inception.   Neither model appeared after 1973… until HWC brought the Bye-Focal back in its Series Two Super Chromes in 2003. But it didn’t return in Show Off form until the 2009 Rewards cars, when it was released with Neo-Classics Redline wheels. Fast-forward to 2011 and this is the first time the Show Off had ever worn Real Riders wheels. And, this is the first time since 1973 that it was available simply for purchase since the Rewards version had to be earned!
