Facel S.A was a French manufacturer founded in December 1939 as a subsidiary of the military aeronautics company Bronzavia. The Facel name is an acronym of Forges et Ateliers de Constructions d'Eure-et-Loir. After World War II ended in 1945, Facel merged with Métallon and began to provide coachwork for European automobile manufacturers such as Panhard, Simca, Bentley, and Ford.
As the automobile industry transitioned from body-on-frame designs to unibody designs, Facel lost its main customers and Métallon left the partnership in 1953. Facel began developing its own cars using engines made by Chrysler, Volvo and Austin. Its first model, the Vega (named after the star) was introduced at the 1954 Paris Auto Show. The cars were advertised with the slogan "For the Few Who Own the Finest." Facels cars were Initially successful, but the company closed in October 1964 after the debut of its mechanically troubled Facellia model.
