Romulan Bird-of-Prey (2260s)

Issue #57 of Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection features the iconic Romulan Bird-of-Prey from the 2260s, as seen in Star Trek: The Original Series. This early Romulan warship first appeared in the episode “Balance of Terror,” where it introduced audiences to cloaking technology and the ominous painted bird-of-prey emblem on its underside. Armed with a powerful plasma weapon and designed for stealth, the ship was a major threat to Federation security during the early Cold War-style tensions with the Romulan Star Empire.

The die-cast and ABS plastic model measures approximately 3.39 inches in length and 4.65 inches in width. It captures the ship’s elegant, curved wing profile and distinct tail section, and is painted in pale gray with the signature red and yellow bird design beneath the hull. The model includes a custom display stand and a 20-page collector’s magazine. The magazine delves into the ship’s development, its technological capabilities, and behind-the-scenes notes on its visual design by Wah Ming Chang, as well as its legacy in later Star Trek media.
