First, Chevy's small-block V8 – the "mouse" – revolutionized engine design in the 1950s. Then came the "rat" – the big-block V8 that powered Chevy to stock car racing success in the 1960s. The "rat" became a muscle car mainstay, and eventually made its way into trucks like our first-ever, RLC Exclusive 1990 Chevy 454 SS. Get this revolutionary ride when it drops at Mattel Creations on 6/28 at 9am PT.
This casting recreates an amped-up version of Chevy's half-ton C1550 pickup. Adding the "Sport Equipment Package" to the basic C/K series truck meant getting an upgraded suspension, cooling systems, and much more. But the centerpiece of this high-performance variant was the addition of a 454-cubic-foot V8 engine. Putting this enormous "rat" motor in such a lightweight truck gave it the potential to burn some serious rubber with its blazing acceleration.
Honoring the engine that inspired this Hot Wheels Collectors edition – our first-ever casting of the vehicle – our designers carefully sculpted and painted a replica of the "rat" motor. You have to be able to see it, of course, so they gave the truck an opening hood. It also includes a working lift gate and rolls on a set of Real Riders 5-spoke mag wheels with red dot axles.
To fully embody the spirit of the real-world version, this all-metal version features paint and deco that mirror the trim from the original's Sport Equipment Package, including the "454 SS" text on the sides of the truck bed. It even replicates the black dashboard and steering column, and the red interior. We also gave it a "BLK RAT" license plate, as a playful finishing touch.
The opportunity to get a first-ever version of a Hot Wheels casting is a collector's dream. Make that dream a reality when our new 1990 Chevy 454 SS goes on sale at MattelCreations.com on 6/28 at 9am PT.
