Here By Popular Demand: The New Rambler American For 1959

The 1959 Rambler American was still a big success and carried American Motors through another year, but it hadn't changed much since the original 1950.  For 1959, it was up against the brand new Studebaker Lark, and that company was hoping for a similar revival to what the American had done for AMC.  While the Lark wasn't outstanding, it pushed the aging American up against the ropes and there were rumors that the Big Three were about to head into the compact market.  To shore up their position, they added a 2 door station wagon as a companion to their 2 door sedan.
