There was little new about the intermediate size Classic except that it had once again been separated from the upmarket Ambassador. The bodywork underwent a substantial restyle but the difference is not greatly apparent today. It could be had in three trim levels and prices ranged from the $2142 Classic 550 two-door sedan to the four-door two-seat 770 station wagon at $2727 (2016 US$16,438-$20,927). You had a choice of 128, 145 and 155hp six cylinders or a 198hp and 270hp V8s. A convertible was introduced at the highest 770 trim level and the two-door post sedan was dropped from same while the two-door hardtop remained. Disc brakes were introduced as an option.
