50th Anniversary Freddie for a Week (Clone)

Charity guitar pick clone featuring Freddie Mercury (1946-1991), lead singer of the rock band Queen, and one of his famous quotations.

Pin promotes the Freddie for a Week initiative, an HIV and AIDS fundraising campaign that encourages people to dress up as Mercury during the week of his birthday, September 5. Mercury died of complications from AIDS. Hard Rock hosted Freddie events in 2021 at many locations worldwide, for what would have been his 75th birthday. Pin also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Hard Rock Cafe brand, founded in 1971.

Mercury is shown on right side of guitar pick, singing into a microphone with his right knee raised and his right fist over his head. His jacket, tank top, pants and shoes are white and light gray. At left, in colorful capital letters, is one of his famous quotations: "I Won't Be a Rock Star, I Will Be a Legend." Each word in the quotation is a different color, painted red, orange, yellow, green, sky blue, purple or dark pink. Guitar pick background is light blue. Dangling from bottom center of pick is a Hard Rock 50th anniversary logo in gold and white. Location name is at bottom of logo in black.

Back of pin says "Limited Edition" and does not state quantity. Cafe staff say quantity delivered is 200.

Sold on a unique backing card divided into quarters, each one a different color. Clockwise from top left, the colored rectangles are red, blue, yellow or green. At top right is a Hard Rock 50th anniversary logo, and at bottom left is a replica Freddie Mercury signature, both in white. Back of card says 15% of sales will benefit the Mercury Phoenix Trust, founded by Queen and its manager to fight the battle against HIV and AIDS.
