Voval posed as a simple shuttle pilot transporting Captain Picard to the planet Lyar. En route, he intentionally crashed the shuttle, injuring Picard. During Picard's recovery, Voval assumed the covert identity Anna, a female crash survivor from a Terellian freighter. In this guise, Voval hoped to learn about romance and love. The experiment failed when Picard discovered the ruse.
