Blue Postbox

The Manchester Blue Postbox.  There are just two blue postboxes in the whole country – the Manchester one, on Liverpool Road, and also one outside Windsor Castle in Berkshire.  The blue post boxes were introduced to important sites in England between 1930 and 1938 to receive airmail post for Europe. They were teamed with the blue airmail ‘par avion’ stickers which are put onto airmail letters.  The expansion of air services rendered them pretty much useless in a short space of time, and they were only put in place for a total of eight years, but these are the two which are still standing.
