Day of the Dead Mermaid

Skeleton mermaid singer who glows in the dark. Inspirations are Seattle maritime culture and the annual Mexican celebration called Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Seattle has a large and growing Hispanic population, many of whom honor dead relatives and friends during Día de Muertos.

Mermaid is black with yellow green bones and trim. After exposure to light, the yellow green areas glow in the dark. Mermaid has long black hair that flows to the right. Around her eyes is a black mask. On her forehead is a yellow green Mexican marigold, a flower commonly used in Día de Muertos decorations. Over her left ear is another flower, this time in white. Her right arm is curled over her head to the right, and her left arm is extended to the left, as if she is dancing. Her body forms the shape of the letter U at bottom of pin, from right to left, ending in an elegant vertical tail with two large lobes. Tail features Mexican marigold flowers and borders that look like papel picado, a Mexican art form made of cut paper. At center of pin is a light gray microphone on a stand. Hard Rock Cafe logo is at bottom center of pin with city name in silver on white.

Back of pin says "Limited Edition 300" and does not state manufacturer. Cafe staff say manufacturer is Pincraft.
