Among two-door Fairlane 500s, the hardtop outsold the post cars by more than two to one. But for four-doors, post sedans outsold hardtops almost four to one. The same was true when the more expensive Galaxie was introduced. Hardtops were not available in the lower series,
The car pictured here had the worst sales of any four door Ford in 1959. The best selling four door was the cheapest Custom 300. I guess when you have the money, you go for the flashy coupe. When you have the family, you pinch the pennies.
