Ford GT40 Mk II

Subvariant title: #1 Blue (Dirty)
22 Variants

Famously, this car was supposed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1966.  It crossed the finish line first.  But Henry Ford II had wanted a photo of the GT40s crossing the finish line in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  The #2 car was awarded the win because it had covered more distance (8 meters/26 feet), starting from 4th instead of 2nd.

Ken Miles had done the majority of the development work on the GT40 and had already won Daytona nad Sebring for Ford that year.  This win was supposed to be his payback.  He was furious with Ford but never received his due because he was killed two months later while testing the planned successor to the Mk II.

Three races are recorded for chassis #1015.  It won the 1966 Daytona and Le Mans 24 Hour races and did not finish the 1967 Daytona 24 because of transmission problems.
