The London to Sydney marathon was one of those insane rallies that traverse several countries and often multiple continents. They rarely sustain because of logistical and political strains. This may have been more difficult than most because the land bridge to Australia was absorbed a short time before the start of the event.
The Marathon was run in 1968 and 1977, and again in 1993 to celebrate the 25th anniversary. Obscenely, it was held again in 2000 and 2004. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and someone will realize that either boats or planes would be more suitable.
I'm a bit confused because there seems to be an autograph on the hood of this model from someone named Colin, and the OP listed Andrew Cornem as a driver. There is no Cornem listed in results although Andrew Cowan won the event in a factory entered Hillman, #75. [Note: Another online reference lists three drivers: Andrew Cowan, Colin Malkin, and Brian Coyle, for the #75 car.]
