Land Rover "The Lions of Longleat"

51 Variants  | 2 Custom

This is one of three Land Rovers that only appeared in Gift Sets issued in 1968. These were the Pony Club (7 blue), Daktari, (15, green with black camouflage) and this one from GS8, Lions of Longleat in white with the same camouflage design as the Daktari one.

These lasted well into the 1970s so can also be found with the later cast wheel styles and Whizzwheels when another towing an aircraft trailer gets added. Finding good versions with these original normal wheels can be difficult. This is the Whizzwheels version.

The set had a chap with a guy with a shotgun standing in a strange hole above the passenger seat. There was also a shed, a couple of lions and three chunks of meat! In the back, instead of a canopy there is a yellow cage affair and a red drum rolling around. All this enabled Corgi to make a lot more money out of this remarkably long-running model.
