OSCA MT4 1500 TN FS 372, 1956

O.S.C.A. / Osca
2 Variants

The OSCA brand was founded by 3 Maserati-brothers in 1947 and their first model was named MT4 (for Maserati Tipo 4 Cilindri.) A couple of engine upgrades followed before settling around 1955 with the latest one called "372 DS". A 1955 facelift saw the old oval grille replaced by a much wider and lower one. Following this facelift, the letters TN (for Tipo Nuovo, meaning 'new type') was added to the model name. In honor of the new engine, the model name was extended even further with "FS 372"

So in essence, the extremely long and seemingly nonsense name means: a Maserati Type 4 cylinders, New Type with a 372 DS engine... ohm and OSCA stands for "Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili—Fratelli Maserati S.p.A."

The MT4 was a "road racer" and participated at various Grands Prix of the time, often piloted by Formula 1 drivers, which is also the case for the specific car modeled here. It was driven by Luigi "Gigi" Villoresi in the 1956 Bari Grand Prix (which was also to be the last one held)

Only 5 FS 372 cars were ever built, one of them was later to be owned by Sir Stirling Moss, who often took it to various vintage car events.
