S.S. Botany Bay

Issue #60 of Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection features the S.S. Botany Bay, the DY-100-class sleeper ship used to carry Khan Noonien Singh and his group of genetically engineered Augments into deep space. Launched in the late 20th century during the aftermath of Earth’s Eugenics Wars, the Botany Bay was intended for long-duration travel using cryogenic sleep chambers. It was discovered adrift in space centuries later by the U.S.S. Enterprise in the TOS episode “Space Seed,” marking the first appearance of Khan in the Star Trek universe.

This die-cast and ABS plastic model measures approximately 5.16 inches long, 2.36 inches wide, and 1.46 inches tall. The ship has a rugged, utilitarian look with a long central spine, cylindrical engine modules, and boxy cargo pods. It’s painted in muted grays and aged metallic tones to reflect its centuries-long drift through the cosmos. The model comes with a display stand and a 20-page collector’s magazine detailing the Botany Bay’s design, the backstory of the Eugenics Wars, the role it played in Khan’s legacy, and behind-the-scenes insights into how the original model was created for the show.
