Stanley Rocket

Fred Marriott drove the steam powered Stanley Rocket to a new land speed record of 127.66 at Ormond Beach, Florida on January 26 1906.  It was the 1st automobile to exceed 200 km/h and the 1st to exceed the rail speed record.  It held the record as the fastest steam powered vehicle for 103 years.

Marriott and the Stanley brothers returned to Ormond Beach the following year with a more powerful car.  It attained 150 mph before catching a hole and destroying the car.  Marriott survived but never attempted another record.
