The New 1946 Packard Clipper

The Packard Clipper debuted in the Spring of 1941 and that iteration lasted until 1947.  All U.S. automobile production ceased between 1943 and 1945.  Only sedans were available at first, coupes were introduced the following year.

Although the Packard marque lasted until 1958, the Depression had put the company in serious financial trouble.  The Clipper was Packard's attempt to create an entry level model ($1375) to compete with the Buick Series 70 Roadmaster ($1364) and the Lincoln Zephyr ($1493).  Its intended competitor at General Motors had been the LaSalle Special ($1440), but that marque shut down the year before, for many of the same reasons.
