Tiberius - RPC I 2906

Roman Provincial, Tiberius (14 - 37 CE), Bronze unit, Phrygia, Laodicea ad Lycum mint

  • Obverse:  ΣΕΒΑΣ ΤΟΣ / Bare head of Tiberius to right
  • Reverse: ΛAOΔIKEΩN down left field, ΔIOΣKOΥΡIΔHΣ down right field / Zeus Laodiceus standing left with eagle and staff.  PK(ligate) O monogram in right field.

Other Information:

  • Issued under Cornelius Dioscurides, magistrate (in office for the second time)
  • The monogram, stands for ΑΡΧΟ ( ruler or governor) and also appears on coins during the reign of Nero.  This identification was made because it is spelled out on coins from the reign of Domitian.
