Toyopet SA

The SA was the start of full-scale production for Toyota.  Although 215 cars in 56 months could hardly be considered a flowing faucet.  This was only the fifth model for the young company but it also marked the third name for the marque - Toyopet.  It was a totally new car rather than a refresh of the Model AA.  While the pre-war cars were based on American designs and engineering, this car had heavy German influencesA series of trucks also sprang from this chassis and related components.

Due to it's size, some link the SA with the small AE, Toyota sees it as more of a continuation of the AA/AB/AC sedan but reflecting the needs and economies of post-war Japan.  This branch died out in 1953 but a revival in 1964 leads all the way to the full size Toyotas & Lexus of today.
