Volvo ÖV 4 "Jakob", 1927

Volvo ÖV4 / OV 4 / OV4

The very first Volvo production-car, launched in 1927. The name ÖV 4 comes from "Öppen Vagn, 4 Cylindrar" meaning open car/carriage, 4 cylinders. The use of special swedish letter "Ö" (OE) in the name, means that it is sometimes spelled OV in foreign countries. The car was never officially named Jakob, but earned this nickname due to one of the 10 prototypes being completed on Jakob's name-day.

In retrospect, choosing an open car to launch the Volvo brand, was probably not the best idea, considering the cool scandinavian home climate, and the closed version, PV 4, launched the following year did a lot better than the ÖV 4.
