Volvo P1800 ES "Prince Carl Gustav", 1971

P 1800 ES / P1800ES

The original goal for Atlas' Volvo Collection was to release 30 models, but shortly before reaching that number it was decided to extend the series, which probably explains the issue of this model - the point is, that it is exactly the same as an earlier issue (ref# 8 506 006, released back in 2011), except that this new one is gold, where the first one was blue metallic. So the cast already existed and a new version could quickly be made, while engineers worked on creating new casts for further models.

It must be added, that the re-issue is somewhat justified by the fact that it's a small scale replica of the car given to then Crown Prince (now King) Carl Gustav of Sweden, even the license plates are correct.

The outer cardboard box is the same as for the original (no mention of the royal heritage there), but the reference numberS have been changed. Yes, numbers in plural, because for some reason there are two numbers stamped on the box: 8 506 032 and 2 506 032. The printed text on the presentation base is the same as for the original, but the letters are slightly 'fatter'.

One could ask, why Atlas didn't release the royal version in the first place, but nevermind.
