The Wolseley 4/44 was introduced in 1952 with bodywork by Gerald Palmer and a power unit closely resembling the MG YB saloon. The MG Magnette which followed soon after, shared the same basic bodywork. In 1956 the 4/44 was replaced by the 15/50. Outwardly distinguishable by revised side trim and twin fog lights, the engine was now the BMC 'B' series unit of 1489cc. The 15/50 was a short-lived model and didn't sell as well as the 4/44 had done. In 1958 both the 15/50 and its MG Magnette cousin were replaced by Farina-derived replacements which were BMCs attempts to be fashionable. Neither replacement was well received at launch.
