Other Information:

  • This coin combines an obverse of Constantius II with a reverse type of the usurpers Magnentius and Decentius.  Although the available evidence is not clear enough to determine if the coin was rather minted by Poemenius in anticipation of the emperor's recapture of the city or by Constantius after he had regained control of the city, the coin is linked to Poemenius' revolt in Trier.
  • In Roman Coins and Their Values V, p. 176, David Sear notes that this coin may have been struck after Poemenius returned the city of Trier to Constantius II and Decentius' suicide on 18 Aug 353.
