Made to Order. TATRA V570 PROTOTYPE The first car to be designed at Tatra following much research into engine location etc, was the V570 prototype from 1933. The V570 was equipped with a rear-mounted air-cooled two-cylinder engine with a cylinder capacity of 854 cc and a top speed of 75 km/h. The V570 concept was designed using patents of the scientifically established streamlining principles of the Hungarian engineer Dr. Paul Jaray (1889-1974), who designed and tested streamlined vehicles in the wind tunnel at the German Zeppelin works in Friedrichshafen. Jaray's streamlining principles showed the benefits of a streamlined body shape with a rear-mounted (air-cooled) engine for both the aerodynamic efficiency as well as the flow of cooling air around the engine. Although the V570 prototype didn't have a particularly aerodynamic body shape, it led to further developments which did. Tatra management directed Ledwinka's design team away from any further development of the V570 prototype and towards the development of a larger, more luxurious car. This eventually led to the Tatra T77.
