American International Pictures (AIP), formerly known as American Releasing Corporation (ARC), began in 1955. It was dedicated to releasing low-budget films packaged as double features, primarily of interest to the teenagers of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. AIP would go on to be acquired by Filmways, later acquired by Orion Pictures, which in turn was acquired by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). The AIP label was relaunched in 2020 as a division of MGM devoted to digital and limited theatrical releases.
