Andrea

Andrea is a fictional character from the comic book series The Walking Dead, and its AMC TV series of the same name. The character was created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, and debuted in The Walking Dead #2 in 2003. In both mediums, she and her younger sister Amy are among a group of survivors near Atlanta, Georgia.

In both mediums of The Walking Dead, Andrea is the older sister to Amy, and was saved by Dale Horvath at the beginning of the apocalypse. In the comic books, Andrea begins a relationship with Dale and ends up becoming one of the best shots of the group. In the televison series, Andrea forms a close, non-sexual relationship with Dale, and is eventually saved by Michonne after the destruction of the Greene family farm. Eight months later, Andrea and Michonne are welcomed into Woodbury where she forms a romantic relationship with the season’s main antagonist, The Governor.

The character appeared in the majority of the comic book series, and is often regarded as the series' deuteragonist. Andrea ends up becoming one of the central characters of the franchise, taking part in almost every major event of the series. She ends up marrying Rick Grimes, the series protagonist. In the television series, Andrea appeared as a main character in the first and second seasons, and returned as the deuteragonist of season 3. In the show, her full name is revealed to be ”Andrea Harrison,” and she is portrayed by Canadian-American actress, Laurie Holden. 

Although both versions of the character have recieved a positive reception, Andrea’s comic book counterpart has been better well-received. For her role as Andrea, Laurie Holden was nominated in the ”Best Supporting Actress on Televison” category by the Saturn Awards twice, winning the award once in 2013.
