Ascaron

Ascaron (until October 1996 Ascon) was a game developer from 1991 to July 2009, based in Gütersloh. The renaming of Ascon to Ascaron took place due to the possibility of confusion with Ascom AG from Switzerland.

In 2001, on the day of the ten-year company anniversary, Ascaron had to apply for insolvency. At the beginning of 2002, however, the business was continued by the founding of Ascaron Entertainment GmbH. The new company had assumed all rights and the name.

In 2009, for the second time in its history, the company filed a petition for the opening of insolvency proceedings with the District Court of Bielefeld. In April 2009, a provisional insolvency administrator was appointed by the latter.

The publisher, Deep Silver, took over Sacred's trademark rights as well as Sacred 2 support and its add-on. In June 2009, Kalypso Media acquired the trademark rights to Ascaron games and other assets from the insolvency.
