Something Missing?

AWZ (Automobilwerk Zwickau) was a former car factory in the German Democratic Republic. It was formed after the Second World War when the Horch factory found itself in the "Soviet Zone" of Germany. It would be renamed Sachsenring later on, named after a famous race track in the neighbourhood.

The factory would produce the Trabant P 601 and its predecessors IFA F 8, AWZ P 70 and P 50. The IFA F 8 was a continuation of the pre-war DKW F 8. (The larger and more modern IFA F 9 was not made in Zwickau, but at AWE in Eisenach.)

AWZ as a brand name was used from 1955 to 1959 on the P 70 and P 50. While the former was then discontinued, the latter evolved into the Trabant P 500.

The same factory also made some trucks using the Horch name and later the Sachsenring name, as well as some big limousines for the higher cadre, the Horch/Sachsenring P 240.
