The Ty online site unveiled the Beanie Ballz product line on January 1, 2011, introducing nine Ballz named Avalanche, Bananas, Bandit, Bonsai, Dots, Flash, Speedy, Tumbles, and Zips.

When thrown, rolled, or bounced, the Ballz always land on their feet.

In the Fall 2011 Ty Retailer Catalog, two new sizes of Beanie Ballz were introduced: large and extra large. The large versions made their way to retailer shelves in September 2011, while the first extra large Ballz became available for sale in late October 2011.

Prickles, released in October 2011, was the first Beanie Ballz to feature larger eyes than the original Ballz.

Prior to January 2012, the Ballz sizes were referred to as regular (5-inch), large (8-inch), and extra large (13-inch). However, in the Spring 2012 Ty retailer catalog, the labels for the sizes changed to regular (5-inch), Medium (8-inch), and Large (13-inch) when the Beanie Ballz key-clips were introduced.

In January 2012, KISSES Brand, Morsel, and Smoothie became the first Walgreens exclusive Beanie Ballz. These were also the first Beanie Ballz to appear with the new 3rd generation Beanie Ballz swing tag.

The January 2012 Ty Retailer Catalog marked the introduction of the first Beanie Ballz key-clips, which arrived in retail stores towards the end of January 2012.

In February 2012, Ty launched a new series of Beanie Ballz representing NBA basketball teams. This was followed by a series representing NFL football teams in July 2012. While the NBA Ballz were animals reflecting the teams they represented, the football Ballz featured a football helmet design.

In 2012, Ty Inc. obtained a license to produce Disney characters. The first Ty-produced Disney characters made their appearance as Walgreens exclusive Beanie Babies in October 2012, while the first Beanie Ballz Disney characters were featured in the Ty retailer Spring 2013 catalog. They started shipping to retailers in January 2013, and the first four characters to hit store shelves were Mickey, Minnie, Tigger, and Winnie the Pooh.

In January 2013, Ty introduced two more sports-themed Ballz sets: one for NHL hockey teams and one for major league baseball teams. The hockey team Ballz sported hockey helmets, while the baseball teams' Ballz had textured uniforms and baseball batting caps.

In February 2013, Ty introduced the first Ballz exclusive to Italy, representing the Italian soccer teams Roma and SSC Napoli.

As of June 2019, no new Ty Ballz plush had been introduced since July 2014. Although various Ty Beanie Ballz were still available for retail sale at the Ty online store (as of June 23, 2019), the product line was considered "retired" for collectors.

In 2022, Ty renamed their product line from "Ty Puffies" to "Beanie Balls." While the Beanie Balls have a similar appearance to the original Beanie Ballz (with the exception of the last letter in the name), they are an entirely different product line.
