The initial set of seven Beanie Boos made their debut exclusively in the United Kingdom in June 2009. Subsequently, slightly altered versions of six of the original seven Boos were later released in both the UK and the USA in 2009.

In March 2010, Ty introduced two new sizes of Boos: medium Boos (initially known as Boo Buddies) and Boo key-clips (initially known as Boo Boo's).

In January 2012, Ty expanded the collection by introducing large Boos. The initial four Boos to hit store shelves were Coconut, Cookie, Safari, and Waddles.

The original seven Beanie Boos were first introduced in June 2009, when they were shipped to Ty retailers in the UK. This set included Bamboo, Bubblegum, Coconut, Kiwi, Peanut, Slush, and Waddles.

In August 2009, the second wave of Boos arrived in the UK. Peanut was no longer available, and the original Bubblegum (the Koala bear) was renamed Kooky. Additionally, a new Lemur named Bubblegum and a new Bush Baby named Cleo made their appearance. The second release in the UK also featured various changes in color, size, and texture from the initial release.

Beanie Boos were first shipped to USA dealers in November 2009. However, two Boos that were part of the second UK release, Bubblegum and Cleo, were not included in the USA shipments.

Bubblegum and Cleo were removed from the US market by Ty, Inc. in response to a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Aurora World, Inc.
