The company Burnett Ltd. was registered on 3 October 1914 as manufacturers of mechanical and automatic toys and novelties in London. It existed until 1939. The directors were F Burnett and E Satchwell, merchants. In March 1915, at the Toy Fair and Market held at the Royal Agricultural Hall in London, they were listed as 'manufacturers of metal and soft toys'.
After the Second World War, the tools for the Burnett range of clockwork and other metal toys were taken over by Chad Valley & Co Ltd.. It would seem probable that the first British-made clockwork toys to be advertised in Games and Toys in October and November 1914, were in fact made by Barringer, Wallis & Manners for Burnett - but there is as yet no documented proof that this assumption is correct. The following list is, however, based on toys exhibited at successive British Industries Fairs, and on advertisements in relevant trade journals:
