Something Missing?

Comfort Colors was started in 1975 by Barry T. Chouinard, who launched a collection of dyed apparel in rural Vermont. He started his business with $275.00 and an old washing machine. The company noticed the growing US demand for colorful apparel and launched its first collection of direct dyed t-shirts. The color palettes have changed and grown over the years, as popular color trends, such as neon were all the rage. In 1989, the revenue reached 8.9 million and the company continued to grow. In 1995, the company developed the Comfort Color brand and began to market products under its own label. In 2005, Comfort Colors offers the industry’s first garment dyed ringspun cotton t-shirts. This process creates a softer, smoother and more durable cotton. New Earthy shades were introduced in 2007 with a pigment dye collection. As the demand for the brand grew, the sales reached $27.8 million. In 2013, The Gildan Company started manufacturing Comfort Colors blank tees, lowering costs, improving quality and helping to promote their continued steady and rapid growth. Barry T. Choulinard retired in 2015, after 40 years of running the company and sold the company to Gildan for $100. Million.
