Something Missing?

Condon Products Ltd., also known as Condon Toys, was founded In 1949 by Don Rix and Frank Constable. Presumably, the name is a portmanteau of Constable and Don. Zinc restrictions for non-essential products during the Korean War in the early 1950s caused the company to fold soon after its founding.

Known models made by Condon include a Muir Hill Site Dumper with licence plate CP1949 (possibly in reference to the company and its founding year) and a small mine train with a locomotive and three hopper wagons. Rix was previously a toolmaker for Lesney, and when Condon folded Lesney purchased the tooling for the dumper. Lesney intended to produce the dumper as the third model in their early toy range after the Road Roller and Mixer, but none were made. The model was scaled down in 1953 and released as the number 2a Site Dumper in the Matchbox 1-75 series.
