MoreCorn Products International Inc. said it plans to change its name to Ingredion, to better reflect its product offerings and shed its image as an agricultural company.
The suburban Chicago company, a long-time maker of corn syrups and other ingredients for the food, beverage and brewing industries, said the name change is subject to shareholder approval at the annual meeting in May.
The name change stems, in part, from the 2010 acquisition of National Starch, a maker of ingredients for soups, mayonnaise, sauces, and yogurt. That acquisition increased sales by about one-third. The company hired an outside marketing agency to help choose a new name, according to a spokesman, who declined to say how much the company spent on that effort.
