In 1980 Cronimet was founded by Günter Pilarsky. Initially, the former scrap trading consisted only of two companies in Karlsruhe and Dusseldorf. After just two years, Cronimet opened up the Dutch market and opened its first foreign subsidiary, Cronifer Holland BV (today: Cronimet Holland BV). Starting in the 1980s, the company began to orient itself towards purchasing in the direction of Eastern Europe , and in 1990, shortly after the fall of the Wall, the purchasing volume from this region was already 30 percent of the total volume. Cronimet benefited greatly after the turnaround from scrap purchases in Russia and the former Soviet republics.
