The Disneyland Resort, more commonly and colloquially referred to as Disneyland, is a recreational resort complex in Anaheim, California. The resort is owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company through its Parks and Resorts division and is home to two theme parks (Disneyland and Disney California Adventure), three hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel, and Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa), and a shopping, dining, and entertainment area (Downtown Disney). Originally, it opened to the public on July 17, 1955 as just one theme park, Disneyland, but as nearby hotels and lands were acquired, it was inaugurated as Disneyland Resort in 2001.
