The Dominion is a major political and military power from the Gamma Quadrant, introduced in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It is led by the Founders, a race of shapeshifters (Changelings), who rule through two engineered species: the Vorta (administrators and diplomats) and the Jem’Hadar (soldiers addicted to ketracel-white). The Dominion seeks to impose order and control over other civilizations.
The Dominion enters the Alpha Quadrant through the Bajoran wormhole and becomes the primary enemy in the Dominion War (2373–2375). The war ends with a Dominion surrender after the Federation Alliance defeats their forces and cures the Changeling plague.
