Something Missing?

Eduard Schopf began his professional career as a merchant in Bremen in 1920, trading in fuel and building materials. Later, he became involved in a small food mail-order business in Bremen. He recognized a market opportunity in the direct shipping of typical Bremen imports such as coffee, cocoa, and tea. He supplied consumers with coffee that had previously been roasted by wage laborers. Initially, his company was a one-man operation, with him packing the shipping packages himself in the laundry room of his rented apartment. Schopf's customer focus was exemplary, delivering his coffee even to the most remote locations. This enabled him to quickly grow his business.

In 1924, he founded his own coffee roasting company, maintaining his sales strategy of exclusively mail-order sales and not establishing any branches. He initially called his company ESB (Eduard Schopf Bremen). Since 1925, he used the acronym Eduscho (originally spelled eduScho), derived from the initial letters of his first and last names.

Eduscho is now a coffee brand owned by Tchibo, which is used in Germany as the name for the coffee product of the same name. Tchibo acquired Eduscho and continued to offer the brand as part of its product range.
