Something Missing?

Electa was founded in Florence in 1945.

Electa’s first publications were issued under the impulse of the art historian Bernard Berenson, who had “elected” the Tuscan city as his new home. The role of Electa was clear from the start: to study and publish art and monuments, to safeguard them by presenting informative texts backed up by photographic documentation and critical studies.

The role of Electa was clear from the start: to study and publish art and monuments, to safeguard them by presenting informative texts backed up by photographic documentation and critical studies.

In the late fifties the publishing house relocated to Milan.  Today Electa is the major Italian publisher in this sector, both by the richness of its catalogue and the variety of its editorial series. Increasingly significant are its activities related to exhibitions, with an organizational structure capable of coping with major exhibitions and events, demonstrating the constant presence of the publishing house in the artistic debate.
