Elwood Blues is a fictional character who initially appeared in the Blues Brothers skits on the NBC television series Saturday Night Live and later in The Blues Brothers films. Elwood (played by Dan Aykroyd), along with his blood brother "Joliet" Jake (played by John Belushi), were raised at St. Helen of the Blessed Shroud orphanage in Calumet City, IL. Elwood took an interest in blues music and he took up singing and playing the harmonica. As an adult with Jake, they assembled a group of musicians to form the aptly named Blues Brothers Band.
