Eskimo

Ice Cream | Brand

Something Missing?

Eskimo was founded in 1927 as a brand for the ice cream business of the Austrian MIAG, later sold to the Austrian Unilever AG. In 1962, the frozen food production was taken over by Hans Petter in Raasdorf, near Vienna. In 1965, the production was moved to the joint first combined ice cream & frozen production in Groß-Enzersdorf for "Eskimo" and - probably for the first time so called - "Iglo".

In 1970, the Unilever subsidiary Eskimo Eis/Petter Iglo TKK merged with Nestlé subsidiary Jopa Eis/Findus TKK to form Eskimo-Iglo GmbH. While ice production ceased in 1998, the brand name "Eskimo" remained in place for ice cream, which has since been imported from Germany under the Eskimo brand. Meanwhile, Eskimo is distributed by Unilever Austria GmbH in Austria.
