Esso Petrol Pump Series

Series

Something Missing?

Morris & Stone (Morestone) responded to Lesney's Matchbox Series of miniature models with their own range of miniatures, the "Esso" Petrol Pump Series. Ten models were available in September of 1956 and no.s 11 & 12 were also announced. By the end of 1957 there were 20 models, six made by Modern Products and the remainder by other manufacturers.

The models were packed in boxes that resembled Esso petrol pumps. By saving tokens from the boxes a cardboard Esso garage could be obtained. The garage was approximately to scale with the petrol pumps, and therefore far too big for the toys! The offer was advertised by a leaflet enclosed in the boxes, which listed nos. 1 to 10. It expired on March 31, 1957. After this the free garage offer was replaced by an offer of the large Morestone Foden Tanker at a reduced price.
